"Helpful Hand" - Intaglio Process
"Helpful Hand" is a handmade piece exemplifying our culture around helping people. Providing a helping hand not only benefits those in-need but benefits the giver in how they feel overall.
None of my prints are printed by any machine. They are all designed by me, hand-carved, and hand printed. It is a time-consuming and difficult process, but it is a labor of love.
Dimensions:
Printed Area- 5" x 7"
This design was made using the dry-point technique to etch lines into plexiglass (acrylic). Using an etching tool, each line and shaded textures were scratched into the plexiglass surface by hand. The engraving must be deep enough to accept ink within the grooves.
The intaglio printmaking process functions in the opposite way of a normal stamp. Instead of applying ink on the raised parts of a printing block, ink is squeegeed (scraped) into the grooves that have been carved. The raised parts of the plate are then cleaned to create white areas in the design.
Please note:
Due to the handmade nature, each print will differ from the image in value (darks and lights) and paper color. However, all paper is a shade of white, so there is nothing too crazy. This print is shipped without a frame and has a 2-3 inch border that can be trimmed to your specific framing needs.
I hope you appreciate the ancient art of printmaking as much as I love the process. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions about this piece or the process!
